COVID-19 Response

My #1 goal is COVID-19 recovery. Since the pandemic began, we’ve responded to residents unjustly denied unemployment insurance, helping individuals and families secure the benefits they need.

COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our economy and to life as we know it. My priority has been to make sure my constituents have what they need to stay healthy and safe.

Unemployment has skyrocketed and has vastly overwhelmed the state’s Employment Development Department. My office has responded to over five times the amount of unemployment cases received on a monthly basis - all COVID-19 related. We have helped many individuals receive the benefits they are entitled to and have connected those who don't normally qualify for regular unemployment benefits to other types of expanded benefits.

As our economy begins to reopen and people start going back to work, my focus will be on making sure we are protecting our most vulnerable communities that are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and helping small business owners get back on their feet. This means making sure our health care providers have enough personal protective equipment, making sure we have sufficient tracing, supporting our hospitals by making sure they have sufficient supplies to care for patients that come infected. This also means supporting legislation to fund infrastructure to create needed jobs, working with our state partners to eliminate red tape that is making it difficult for hard working Californians to access unemployment benefits and increasing child care slots for families that need to return to work while having a school-age child at home.

We are in this together and will get through this together.
